A Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation branch in Illinois partnered with the American Warrior Initiative (AWI) to honor a local U.S. veteran with a service dog at an event held in Chicago. Along with a donation, a residential housing “Boot Camp” was held to train real estate professionals and mortgage planners on how to excellently handle the home-purchase needs of active duty military members and veterans.
The honoree at the event was U.S.Army veteran Quincy Casper, who served for almost eight years. During both active duty and Army Reserve, Quincy spent time deployed in Iraq, Germany and Afghanistan. Quincy was eventually medically discharged from the Army due to injuries he received in combat. Fairway Independent Mortgage and the American Warrior Initiative worked with Custom Canines to honor Quincy with a service dog named Brecken. Joining Quincy for the occasion was U.S.Air Force veteran Joshua Webster, who was recently honored with an AWI outreach of his own.
Branch manager Dawn Pemberton was excited to help host this event for such a deserving veteran. She said,
“The Chicago event was held at the Chicago Theater Works very close to downtown Chicago. It was a unique space, and we had approximately 85 Realtors attending the event. It was a totally packed event — standing room only! It was wonderful that Joshua Webster was also able to attend the Chicago event to support Quincy. So, we were lucky to have both veterans and their families attending along with the volunteers from Custom Canines.”
Founded by Louise Thaxton and Sean Parnell, the American Warrior Initiative is a non-profit organization sponsored by Fairway Independent Mortgage. The AWI seeks to ease U.S. veterans’ transition from military to civilian life.
